I am a solo traveller who was planning a trip to Bhutan. As this was my first time going on an international trip, I thought it would be best to start from the neighbouring country, Bhutan. Bhutan is one of those countries where a majority of the people have still held on to their customs and traditions. I wanted to experience authentic Bhutanese culture and explore its beauty. But, I had no clue how to execute this plan, apply for a visa or convert the currency.
I had heard a lot of good reviews of Thrillophilia on Facebook and even saw a few ads on Instagram. While planning this trip, I thought of checking out this website. On the site, I could see so many well-planned itineraries and exciting packages. Moreover, a lot of these packages were under my budget. Out of all the packages, I found a suitable one for myself. I dropped in an inquiry regarding the same to know more about it.
I connected with a representative of Thrillophilia who guided me through the itinerary. He was also polite and patient enough to clear all of my doubts regarding my first international trip. We discussed the details of the package for around 3-4 days. In the end, I was convinced to proceed with my selected package.
Without any further delay, I completed all the required formalities and booked the package. Right after, I booked my flight tickets and started packing immediately.
How did my first international trip go…
I arrived at the Paro International Airport where I met my driver. He was a friendly localite who greeted me with a huge smile. The company sent a sedan car for me, inside which there were some snacks and water bottles. It was a really sweet gesture and a great way of welcoming.
The driver took me directly to Phuentsholing where I booked a hotel. My hotel was located in a very beautiful location, surrounded by lush greenery with mountains as a background. I got a pretty decent room with wooden walls and wooden floors. The best part about the room was that the bed was placed right next to a window from where I could see the breathtaking views of the town.
My first day was at leisure so I decided to explore the town a bit on my own. I got freshened up and then had my lunch at the hotel. After that, I went out to visit the Torsa River Side. On my way back to the hotel, I also went to the Phuentsholing local market and purchased some gifts for my family and a few clothing items for myself.
The next day, I checked out of the hotel after having my breakfast. My driver came to pick me up and then we drove off to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. We first arrived at the pre-booked hotel and I completed all the check-in formalities. I dropped all my luggage in my room and then headed out to explore the city. I visited places like Clock Tower Square, Simply Bhutan Museum, Dechen Phodrang Monastery and the Bhutan Postal Museum. After that, I stopped at a street side stall and tried the Bhutanese special ‘Ema Datshi’ which is a spicy stew made from chillies and cheese. I have been waiting to try this delicious recipe after watching Deepika Padukone’s interview where she mentioned that this was her favourite dish.
The third day of my itinerary included a complete tour of the city. After having a scrumptious breakfast, I left my hotel. I explored a lot of popular attractions including the Buddha Statue, Simtokha Dzong and National Memorial Chhorten. I also visited the Choki Traditional Art School where I got to see a lot of impressive paintings, wood carvings, sculptures and engravings. At night, I went from Thimphu to Paro.
The next day, I woke up with a very beautiful view at my hotel in Paro. By far it was the best hotel room that I had received. I received my breakfast in my room which I enjoyed while getting ready for the day.
Day 4 was a truly memorable day when I got to enjoy a hike to the Taktsang Monastery. It was a beautiful journey where I covered an approximate distance of 3 km. I also visited Ta Dzong and Paro Rinpung Dzong on the way. On my way back, I stopped at the Taktsang cafe, had a cup of coffee and enjoyed a fluffy patty. The views from the cafe were truly wonderful which made me forget about all the worldly concerns. It was really difficult to leave the cafe and descend back towards the hotel.
After relishing a delicious dinner, my driver dropped me off at my hotel. I picked up my luggage and completed the check-out formalities. After that, I travelled to Phuentsholing as the next day I had to catch my flight back home. I reached Phuentsholing late at night and checked in at a hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 5 was my day of departure and the end of my trip. For the last time, I was having a proper Bhutanese breakfast while looking at the mountains. After my breakfast, my driver dropped me off at the airport.
A truly memorable experience
I really want to thank Thrillophilia for making everything so convenient for me. After such an amazing experience, I feel confident enough to expand my reach and travel to further countries. Bhutan was a lovely experience where I got to visit so many places, try out the local food as well as learn a lot about the local culture. The company had planned a perfect trip and took care of everything for me.
I loved that this company takes care of little things that impact the overall experience of your trip. All the accommodations were wonderful and my driver was a really friendly and polite person. This was a really budget-friendly package that I would surely recommend to all of my friends as well as to all the readers. I wanted to share this memorable experience with the audience which is why I made sure to drop this detailed Thrillophilia review right after my trip.
